Every year UPSC conducts Combined Defence Services Examination. It is conducted twice in a year for the recruitment of Indian Defence forces for Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Officer’s Training Academy.

CDS Exam has three papers such as English, Mathematics and General Knowledge for Indian Army Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. There are two papers for Officers’ Training Academy, viz. English and General Knowledge.

General Knowledge is one of the key papers for both the categories of CDS Exam. The knowledge regarding the world is essential to know for this department entry.

General Knowledge section has multiple choice questions of 100 marks with 120 questions to be attempted. According to the previous year papers analysis following pattern can be followed for the preparation.

Strategy to prepare for CDS General Knowledge

While preparing for CDS Exam, take a special care about General Knowledge section and give a boost to your knowledge every day. It is one of the scoring sections of the paper. Besides History and Politics there are many questions which are asked from Defense. Therefore, one needs to seek adequate source to learn effectively.

Let us discuss some significant preparation tips to crack the CDS general knowledge section:

  1. Develop a habit of reading newspaper daily. It will enhance your general knowledge as well as proficiency in English language. The most important part of the news is headlines, read them carefully and try to make a note of it. Most of the questions are asked from latest news.
  2. There are various online journals available which covers almost all the topics related to economy, business, politics, sports, arts, literature, etc. Subscribe them and follow the updates regularly.
  3. Buy a reputed publication’s reference book also besides reading the newspaper as there are many topics which are ethical and need to be covered for the examination purpose.
  4. Regular mock tests should be taken up to understand the pattern of questions. It will also highlight your weaknesses and you can improve upon the topics by revising them in time. It will also help you to understand the exam pattern and how to attempt them.
  5. Regularly solve the mocks test with the timer on so that you can monitor your speed and accuracy. Both are important factors to attain efficiency to solve the question paper in the stipulated time with accuracy.
  6. Revise your notes daily which you have prepared while studying. It will give you confidence.
  7. Last but not the least, stay positive and believe in yourself. Release all your pressure before the exam date and have confidence in whatever you have learned.
